Once through the Portal there would be no help from Earth’s advanced technology, and no return; only daring Portal Runners could sneak back through the Portal. Risking the formidable wrath of Earth-Gov and the Industrial Giants who ruled behind the scenes, they stole tech diagrams and other things needed by a culture without Earth’s powerful manufacturing base. On St. Antoni, if you wanted anything, you built it yourself.
